Respite Games @ Spirit Day (Parish Social Ministry)
Date: 09/19/2015 - 09/19/2015
Location: Saint Anne's McCloskey Auditorium
Time: 12:00 Noon - 1:30PM
Before the bounce rides, games and music even begin, a very special part of Spirit Day has already begun: the Respite Games. Starting at noon on Spirit Day, indoor games and activities are hosted by Saint Anne’s for children and young adults who have special needs. The Respite Games have been part of Spirit Day for the last several years.
Organized by Saint Anne’s Special Needs Ministry, the Respite Games offer a sampling of the year-long Respite Care program, which provides wonderful evenings of fun and friendship for children who have special needs from the age of 5 on through young adulthood. Saint Anne’s Respite Care program meets on various Friday evenings at Saint Anne’s throughout the year. It is centered on the relationship between the special children and their volunteer buddies, both teens and adults, who partner with them for a light dinner and some great activities, which include sports, music, games and arts and crafts projects.
According to John Rakowski, who leads the activities at the Respite Games and has served as a Respite volunteer for many years, “Every moment volunteers spend with these kids is a blessing. Spirit Day is an extension of that wonderful feeling.”
Families from the parish who have special needs children and are interested in participating in the Respite Games on Spirit Day are invited to contact Linda Leone at St. Anne’s Rectory office at 352-5904.

St. Anne’s CYO Boys Basketball Registration
St. Anne’s CYO Boys Basketball had a fantastic season last year with over 170 boys participating on our 16 teams and many of our teams making the playoffs. Leading the way were Coach McDermott’s 6th grade A team, which repeated as CYO Champions, and Coach Scattareggia’s team who won the 5th grade A Championship.
Registration for the 2015-2016 CYO Boys Basketball season is open. The deadline for registration is Sunday, September 27th.
The program is open to boys entering grades 4th through 8th this September who meet the Nassau-Suffolk CYO eligibility requirements. To play for St. Anne’s a player must:

Mandatory evaluations for all boys will be held at St. Paul’s in Garden City on Monday September 28th and Tuesday September 29th with the specific night and time for each grade to be determined.

Paul Miller to visit Saint Anne's (Worship)
Date: 09/29/2015 - 09/29/2015
Location: Saint Anne's Church
Time: 7:00PM-9:00PM
“The Love of Christ” prayer group has been in existence at Saint Anne’s for about thirty five years. One of our founding members Eileen Donovan described us as a “very quiet” charismatic prayer group, and her description is still apt. We are aging and dwindling in numbers but we meet every Tuesday morning at 10am in the Rectory Meeting room to praise and thank the Lord, to read Scripture and commentaries on Scripture and to intercede for others.
During the latter part of the last Lenten Season several of our members attended a service conducted by Paul Miller at Saint Mary’s Church in Manhasset. Paul Miller is a Catholic layman, married and the father of four adult children and eleven grandchildren. He is a professed member of the Secular Order of Franciscans. He describes himself as having been an ordinary “go to Mass on Sunday” Catholic until 1997 when he met Maria Esperanza of Betania, a Venezuelan mystic whose cause for canonization has been started. Maria was an instrument of healing for Paul and other members of his family. Paul considers her to be one of his mentors in the Healing Ministry. His public Healing Ministry commenced in the year 2000 in association with Fr. Edward McDonough, a Redemptorist priest in Roxbury, Mass. who had a renowned Healing Ministry at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica in that city.
Paul Miller has dedicated his life to caring for the poor and to spreading the devotion to the Chaplet of Divine Mercy throughout the world. He accomplishes this through a soup kitchen he founded in Newark, NJ which feeds and clothes thousands of the poorest of the poor and through the establishment of the Divine Mercy Center also in Newark under Diocesan direction. Paul seems to have anticipated the teaching of Pope Francis who has emphasized the need to care for the poor and to accept God’s mercy while being merciful to others.
Our prayer group has invited Paul Miller to Saint Anne’s and he has accepted. Please set aside Tuesday September 29, 2015 and join us for a special evening which will include Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, praise music, a talk by Paul about his life and praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available. Paul will lay his hands on those who wish, a practice in the Church described as far back as the Acts of the Apostles, and the Holy Spirit may touch, heal and change those so prayed over.
We all need healing and we are all called to conversion, please join us Tuesday September 29, 2015 from 7pm to 9pm in Saint Anne’s church.
There will be a free will offering. All receipts will go to Franciscan Charities Inc., which supports the Soup Kitchen and Divine Mercy Center.
